this is what i expected balatro to be (no shade, balatro is a good game), having all these other cards be playable and have unique effects in a familiar game like blackjack is so cool and fun
The giant rat is way too hard to beat compared to the other opponents. For whatever reason this rat 9 times out of 10 manages to get an higher score than me. And if I manage to hit him it's only 1 damage. Even worse when it gets a blackjack : it gets his health back to full and gain shield. So basically if you don't get the right cards it's basically begging to god that it doesn't blackjack.
The unique cards, references, and gameplay make this feel like a really fresh take on blackjack. The amount in the demo is so fun and engaging, I will totally buy this when it comes out.
any idea if the old version, v0.20 of the demo or even older version, it's still available? I personally liked it more than this current version, just because of the old graphics. i haven't played the new versions of the demo, but the older ones were just amazing. sorry my english, i really dont know it that well
I got lucky with getting Justice as my tarot while I had also collected JOAT and a jack of spades (this was a hearts game) So using this plus me getting a kingmaker, I had like 11 face cards, and even after getting a master of ones putting me to like 12, I HAD SUCH BAD LIKE WITH THESE CARDS, I had an insurance card and 2 jokers as well, and you bet that if that joker was the first card out it copied any ace in sight, HOWEVER WITH SO MANY CARDS TO HELP ME GET 20 OR 21 IN 2 CARDS THERE WAS ALWAYS SOME NON-10+CARD, LIKE JOKER-ACE WORTH ELEVEN FOLLOWED BY A 7, OR A MASTER OF ONES FOLLOWED BY A 6.
The one thing I hate about king of the hill is that it's so hard to activate unless you dedicate an entire run to, and you did that run, ON GLITCHED DECK NONE THE LESS
a few small ideas are to have advantage cards cost more than just one advantage. then have some of the chips like the pepper give you more than just one advantage. that would not only make things more balanced but also add in a whole lot more strategy into the game. the other is to maybe not make the whole game pixel art and maybe try doing something similar to how celest did its art style. maybe make the chips and IDs a more simplistic look while having the cards look hand drawn. then throw in some small effects some more character dialog then the game is finished.
there are already some cards that indirectly cost more than one advantage to use certain effects. you could make a copy of AI generated card on your side for 2 advantage. Dancing queen may require more than one advantage to get to a specific value.
I think the advantage gameplay loop is fine the way it is. no need to make it more complicated. also, there has been major strides made with developing the style of the game.
I'm pretty sure the dealer has the same three cards in his deck as before, and the only significance of a npc having a foil card is that they get to start with it.
curious, can you ever permanently add a foil card to your deck at this stage of the game?
Like the additional music options, and many of the new cards. I think I like that face-cards are now on average good, but I'm not sure. Don't much care for the new grungy aesthetic, but I'll put up with it. Glitched is way easier now than in the April Fool's update, since it copies most of what cards do again. Some of the nerfs (e.g. Death, Lovers) were a bit extreme, but that's okay. Glitched cards copying Handy cards' Handiness would be nice, but would probably make the associated deck too good. Advantage is starting to feel less tacked-on, which is good. I still much prefer the pre-advantage version of the game, but this is much more complete, and if it makes adding more card ideas easier in terms of balance, I can see how that might be worth it.
The change to Jack-in-the-box is very good. Being able to sink advantage into it to roll different suits as it goes in and out of the box feels thematically appropriate and isn't awful. Being able to spend 1 advantage to get a 0 value is very good, but not broken.
The change to Mon Calamari is still SAD. 1000 chips was such a cool side objective and we used to die trying to set it up more than any other way in the game XD 100 chips with the direct damage making it easier to kill with and a self-damage penalty is certainly much more balanced, but it is not nearly as exciting. It makes sense, though, since the new cards have been upping the power level and particularly the ability of the player to consistently hit precise targets to drag out games when desired.
Jumping jack is awesome and a ton of fun.
Report Card is a great way to make spades matter, although perhaps a bit overpowered in its own right-- consider that it is always better than cardiovascular exercise.
The King of All Cosmos is a neat idea, but glitched cards going into it seem to be a problem-- they don't activate its on-play effect if you've no jack, which is fair, but they also, at least in that case, instantly end the round for some reason that is unclear to me.
It's weird to me that Jackpot doesn't instant blackjack. I get that the pun you are going for is that it is a pot of Jacks, but it's just a little weird to me, I guess. Maybe it could do something to the effects of cards like the scratchcard or gravecard that have a random roll as well as giving three jacks? Idk.
I like the Baseball Card, now, it was a good fix.
Is the 4 mana 7/7 still in the game? I haven't seen it.
0s with suits are kinda weird to me. I wonder what the suit part does.
i've been playing this game every day obsessively, beat both the lounge and the basement and am now trying to collect everything, can't wait for full release!!
You could have them all be negative omni-suit cards but replace the face cards with slashes.
Yeah, a Tarot deck would be hard to balance for sure. Some of the cards are pretty bad, but they're all better than e.g. the 8 of clubs. I guess except Death if all your cards are tarot XD
negative blackjack could never and will never be a thing. the format don't support it, it wouldn't make sense with how the negative cards say " * effect cannot be reduced below zero". not to mention that there is no negative limit.
you could potentially have a card that multiplies all current played card values by -1. in fact you could probably theme it after the inverter from shotgun roulette.
consistency. you could wait until it's the last card in your deck then ask for valentines to get a good 20 +free healing. or you could just have a risk-free 18 for as long as you like.
New update is amazing, but please tone down the glitchy effect on the glitch cards it's straight up nauseating unless ironically the glitch deck glitched out for me and got more intense.
Edit: I'm big dumb and didn't know there was a setting.

here's our coverage of your game:
Hopefully we'll see more of it soon, as we really enjoyed playing it!Phenomenal, I enjoyed this more than Balatro actually

Face Card Build:

I got it!
Nice!

new use for double backed card: combo with 4 mana 7 7 [Urayuli]
But exploiting doesn't trigger the 4 mana 7/7, does it? I thought only hitting did.
no, exploiting does in fact use a turn, just like playing a card from hand, and 4 mana 7/7 triggers at the start of your next turn.
it is garenteed consistency.
Dang, nice! That makes the double sided card a LOT less useless.

why does the poker player look ALOT like giwi with some 8 bit glasses
I see no similarities, other than them both being girls.
the bouncer has a FOIL 21 OF SPADES
and less enough cards to be able to spam it
RIGHT?! the amount of polish to this update is nuts
I'm pretty sure the dealer has the same three cards in his deck as before, and the only significance of a npc having a foil card is that they get to start with it.

i dont know
hmm now that i think about it, there should be a gamemode where you pick the starting deck
not compatible with collection. you could just start a run with all of the cards you haven't found yet.
related question for someone else, why does bouncer have a 10 of clubs now?
no idea maybe so he can keep having either 21 of spades, 20 of clubs, or nothing at all
he only has one 10 of clubs.
and I found the reason: reduced bust limit
OHH that makes sense
also he has two 10s
I got a business card played as my first card on the first run I did that got to there so I could (and had to) take the foil 21

0s with suits are kinda weird to me. I wonder what the suit part does.
Koi Koi / Hanafuda themed cards would be nice.
is it true that you coded it so that you could never find king of the hill while having no face cards, forcing you to have, then remove face cards?
No, I had a run where I started with the glitch deck and got king of the hill as my first reward card.
I guess I just need to keep grinding then.
Randomly tried out the game, wasn't expecting a masterpiece.
Noice!
BABE WAKE UP, NEW D&DG UPDATE DROPPED
i've been playing this game every day obsessively, beat both the lounge and the basement and am now trying to collect everything, can't wait for full release!!
literally, randomise portrate just cycles thru them.
Absolutely love the card shark theme! : ) : ) : ) : ) : )
you can spam the back button on the collection.
also [there] is a bug similar to being able to peek inside a pack without buying it in balatro. see if you can find what it is.
there needs to be negative and tarot starting decks. also make it so negatives have interesting effects on negative blackjack so you can still win.
you would need to have some positive cards though. Which cards would be positive?
also tarot cards never gonna happen. There is a reason why there is only one way to get tarot cards in your deck.
You could have them all be negative omni-suit cards but replace the face cards with slashes.
Yeah, a Tarot deck would be hard to balance for sure. Some of the cards are pretty bad, but they're all better than e.g. the 8 of clubs. I guess except Death if all your cards are tarot XD
what are slashes? do you mean scratch?
yeah my bad
Just use The World if you want a tarot deck
but what else would you put in such a starting deck? How would you make it fit in with the others?
negative blackjack could never and will never be a thing. the format don't support it, it wouldn't make sense with how the negative cards say " * effect cannot be reduced below zero". not to mention that there is no negative limit.
you could potentially have a card that multiplies all current played card values by -1. in fact you could probably theme it after the inverter from shotgun roulette.
I think there may be a bug where it might invert colours. idk it only happened to me once.
pretty good game ye man!!
Is there negative face cards?
the addition of many new face cards is clearly inspired by the limited amount of jacks that can be transformed by that one tarrow card
Is it accurate to say that you will generally get negative cards matching your base deck?
no
No, but there are negative aces.
wow this is a new game, I thought the comments were refering to the glitch deck
I love every single new thing
they removed "burn on discard" from the fool.
thank you very much for adding "cards created this way burn on discard" to the lovers.
idk, man, why ever take an additional lovers now?
consistency. you could wait until it's the last card in your deck then ask for valentines to get a good 20 +free healing. or you could just have a risk-free 18 for as long as you like.
i hate the 21 point card :< ,btw nice game
advantage of double-backed card's exploit effect: exploiting stalls for a turn.
New update is amazing, but please tone down the glitchy effect on the glitch cards it's straight up nauseating unless ironically the glitch deck glitched out for me and got more intense.
Edit: I'm big dumb and didn't know there was a setting.
In settings there is a glitch intensity setting
Oh shoot thank you!
I didn't know that either! makes it much easier to see what card it's mimicing
Love the new update, it's almost a whole new game
yO , had a lot of fun playing this . great demo !
Bro i love this game
